Soil Movement and Damage to Homes:

Have you noticed cracks in your walls, nails protruding through the dry wall, or even your floor tiles separating or cracking?  That could be related to a soil movement. Our team of experts can visit your home and provide a variety of services to help you discover a cost effective way to address the problem and your concerns.

While most web-searches result in advertisements for some really good repair contractors, most of them do not employ engineers but rather, salesman.  Too many of these salespeople will try and sell the homeowners a very costly and unnecessary repair.

PGG personnel are interested in discovering the cause of the problem and recommending a solution to repair it and prevent it from re-occurring, not selling something that may or may not work. In addition, we will recommend options and advise our clients on what are the most cost-effective options.

Visual Evaluation:

When soil movement occurs, the resulting cracking manifests itself in a specific pattern.  Knowing and understanding these patterns helps to understand the location and potentially the origin of the soil movement.

A Floor Level Survey is one of the first steps of a foundation inspection.  A special tool is used to determine if the floor of your home is moving. This tool is called a manometer and it is used to measure the differences down to a tenth of an inch in the level of the floor. It’s a little bit more precise than rolling a ball across the floor to see if your floors are level.  These measurements help us to determine our next steps. No floor is perfectly level; however, our expert team can help identify when there is a problem. You will be provided with recommendations following the survey.  We know foundation changes can be daunting but with our help we can ease the process and help you understand what needs to be done to address the problem.

Another service we provide is a Drainage Survey.  Foundation shifts can be due to improper drainage. Examples of improper drainage are areas of ponding water, the yard sloping towards the house, downspouts that discharge water too closely to the house, etc. It is important that your landscaping design is properly planned and executed to ensure water is draining away from the house/foundation and yard is graded properly.  Our professionals will visit your home to measure, take pictures, and inspect the landscaping around the entire property. You will be provided with a plan and recommendations on where pooling of water may occur, how to direct water away from the home, rain gutters, yard drains, and more.
